The announcement follows hot on the heels of Audi’s full acquisition of Sauber which was announced in March.
“The signing of Nico is the next milestone for the Audi Formula 1 project,” says says Andreas Seidl, CEO of the future Audi F1 factory team.
“With his speed, his experience and his dedicated teamwork, he will make an important contribution to Audi’s entry in 2026 as early as next year,” he says.
For the 37-year-old who started in F1 in 2010, joining the new Audi team is a perfect fit.
“The prospect of competing for Audi is something very special,” he says.
